about

I began composing 'Finite II’ in December of 2016, not long before I released its predecessor. The idea of it commencing with the closing notes of “Whitman’s Challenge” occurred to me and it simply snowballed from there. The EP is comprised of some back material, an old demo written by Zack Ordway (just like FI contained one as such), and quotes from my back catalog, but mostly fresh material. It is perhaps my most harmonically dense release to date, and undoubtedly the most demanding string arrangements I’ve ever composed.

I recorded the drums in late January/early February of 2018, then Cam and Sophia tracked respectively. After they were finished, I constructed a mock-up of the EP in Pro Tools and knocked out all of the sound design components (a continually burgeoning interest of mine) and cover art over a period of about twelve hours, purposefully flirting with mild sleep deprivation. Following this, I flew to Florida to begin mixing with Patrick in late March. As with ‘Silly String II’, he later finished up said process and mastered it on his own, doing recalls with me in a mobile fashion.
